The Pileated Woodpecker is the largest woodpecker in the Northeast. It's about the size of a crow and if you're fortunate enough to see one flying by, you'll be amazed at its size. Legend has it that a Pileated Woodpecker was the inspiration for Walter Lantz's Woody Woodpecker.
